Located in shadows of Annapurna and Gangapurna Himalayas, the Snow Leopard Haven captures the surrounding of Gunsang. Gunsang is close settlements from Tanki Manang, 2 hours hike. Local people used this area for agriuculture and herding before the migration of Managi people to the Capital of Nepal, Kathmandu. The remains of the herders’ huts and corrals can be seen today. The area is transition between tree line and pasture from where Annapurna Himalaya range in south and Throng La peak and Julu Peak in north. It’s alpine ecotones where various kinds of species of birds including white browed tip warbler, Himalayan snowcock can be seen. Blue sheep, a major prey species of snow leopard and yak herds are commonly seen in the region. Getting there is an adventure in itself
The journey to starts from the town of Besisahar 2300 ft, about six to eight hours from Kathmandu. , passing through picturesque villages like Bhulbhule, Taal, Chame, Pisang, Bhraka, and Manang. The route follows the Marsyangdi River, gradually gaining altitude, offering glimpses of lush green forests, terraced fields, and traditional stone houses.
The journey follows an off-road route, winding through diverse landscapes, including rice terraces, Chamche Waterfall, Octopus Waterfall, Tall Village, Dharapani, and Timang Village. Along the way, you’ll witness stunning views of the Manaslu Himalayan Range, with Timang Village offering the best vantage point. As you drive toward Chame, the landscape transforms dramatically, making the journey both diverse and refreshing. After approximately 4–5 hours of driving from Besisahar, you will arrive in Chame, where you can enjoy views of Lamjung Himal and sections of the Manaslu Range. Here, you will truly feel that you are in the heart of the mountains.
As you ascend deeper into the Himalayas, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Towering peaks such as Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak begin to dominate the skyline, making every moment of the journey feel like a step closer to paradise. The route takes you through alpine forests, pristine rivers, and peaceful Tibetan-style villages, offering a true sense of isolation and serenity. The breathtaking Green Lake, set against a semi-desert landscape with the majestic Himalayas as a backdrop, adds an almost surreal tranquility beyond imagination. This short hike offers incredible views of the Manang Valley, Gangapurna Lake, and the majestic Annapurna Range.
